Avatar: The Way Of Water, the epic science-based American fiction film, is finally coming to U.S. theaters on December 16, 2022.
James Cameron, who also helmed the 2009 picture Avatar, returned with Avatar: The Way of Water. As the second entry in the Avatar film series, the movie is distributed by 20th Century Studios. The screenplay for the movie was written by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Cameron, with input from Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno, and Cameron and Jon Landau produced it.
The Cast of Avatar: The Way of Water
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, CCH Pounder, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Giovanni Ribisi, and Matt Gerald were again cast in their previous roles in Avatar’s last part. Sigourney Weaver also plays a new part. Cliff Curtis, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, and Jemaine Clement are among the new cast members.
Following the massive success of the original movie, Cameron, who had mentioned in 2006 that he would like to develop sequels to Avatar if it was successful, announced the first two sequels in 2010, with The Way of Water aiming for a 2014 date.
However, the decision to make three more sequels, making a total of five Avatar movies, as well as the requirement to create new technology to film performance capture scenes underwater, a feat never before achieved, resulted in significant delays that gave the cast and crew more time to work on the script, preproduction, and visual effects. Principal photography began on August 15, 2017, in Manhattan Beach, California, and continued through September 25, 2017, in Wellington, New Zealand, concurrently with Avatar 3.
The Film’s Release Date
The most recent postponement of the movie’s theatrical debut is scheduled on July 23, 2020. The Way of Water will release on December 16, 2022, and three additional sequels are expected in 2024, 2026, and 2028, albeit the latter two would rely on how well-received The Way of Water performs at the box office.

The movie will be released in IMAX, IMAX 3D, Real3D, and Dolby Cinema formats. Dolby Vision versions of Avatar: The Way of Water and its new sequels will be available. It was ranked among the best ten movies of 2022 by organizations, including the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review.
