Dwyane Wade disputed with his ex-wife for changing daughter Zaya’s name

The three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade and his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches have bitter dispute over changing their 15-year-old daughter Zaya’s name.

Alleging that Wade is ” positioned to profit”, she filed a legal petition against changing the name and gender of her trans daughter legally. Fauches is worried that the NBA star “may be pressuring ” Zaya for his financial benefit.

The couple parted in 2007 and got divorced in 2010. Zaya wade was born in 2007, few months after the couple split. She was originally named Zion. Later, her name was changed to Zaya as she came out transgender woman in 2019.

According to PEOPLE, Siohvaughn Funches filed the petition in the Supreme Court of California on Tuesday.

After filling the petition Fuches said about Wade,” positioned to profit from the minor child’s name and gender change with various companies through contacts and marketing opportunities including but not limited to deals with Disney.”

Siohvaughn also expressed her concern and said, ” I have concerns that [Dwyane] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies”.

Dwyane Wade’s ex-wife claimed that she and Wade spoke in Wade’s home in Atlanta where he informed her , “informed me that a lot of money had been already made and that additional money will be made in relation to our child’s name and gender issue”.

Fuches continued, “Wade told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith.” 

Dwyane Wade’s Reaction

Dwyane was not happy with these accusations from his ex-wife. He wrote on his Instagram account,”This isn’t a game for my family and definitely not for Zaya. This is her life!”

Wade expressed that he wasn’t astounded by these allegations, yet that he’s disheartened that his ex-wife continues to place herself at the center of attention without contemplating her young children.

In 2010, Siohvaughn claimed a petition against Wade charging that Fuches and her sons was emotionally distressed because of the Wade’s relationship with Union.

That time Wade called the petition ” baseless and meritless”. According to ESPN and other sources the lawsuit was finally dismissed.

Zaya always gets love and support from her father and step-mother Gabrielle Union since after she turned out a transgender.

In an interview Zaya shared her stuggle story and the criticism she had to borne for being a transgender woman.

Zaya said, ” As a trans person, once I came out, there was a lot of hateful comments about how I should grow my hair out long or fit into a certain version of femininity, even though that’s not true at all.”
