Shrek 2, by Dream Works Pictures, became the 8th most-watched film on Netflix in the U.S. in 2022, while Shrek is in the 4th position. The DreamWorks Animation comedy Shrek 2 was released in 2004 and is partially based on William Steig’s 1990 picture book Shrek!

More details about Shrek 2

It was adapted from a screenplay by Adamson, Joe Stillman, and the writing duo of J. David Stem and David N. Weiss, the sequel to Shrek (2001) and the second entry in the Shrek franchise, was directed by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury, and Conrad Vernon (in his feature-directing debut).

Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz,  Eddie Murphy,  Julie Andrews,  Rupert Everett, Antonio Banderas, John Cleese,  Antonio Banderas, and Jennifer Saunders all lend their voices to the animated film. In the movie, Donkey (Murphy), Puss in Boots, and Shrek (Myers) work together to thwart Fiona’s (Diaz) Fairy Godmother’s (Saunders) attempts to end Shrek and Fiona’s marriage.

Adamson replaced screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio for the first movie after differences with the producers. The tale was influenced by Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967), and Puss in Boots’ image was enhanced because of modern animation techniques. The significant actors’ salaries also increased significantly to $10 million. That was one of the most important contracts in each of their careers. Like its predecessor, Shrek 2 makes fun of other fairy tale movies and incorporates references to American popular culture.

Shrek 2 had its world premiere on May 19, 2004, at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood. It was then screened at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d’Or. The movie, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews like its predecessor, brought in US$928.7 million worldwide. At the time of its release, it had the biggest opening for an animated movie and the second-largest three-day opening weekend in American history.

The film went on to earn the most money globally in 2004. The most popular movie DreamWorks Animation produced is Shrek 2, which also held the record for the highest-grossing animated film of all time until Toy Story 3 overtook it in 2010. The movie won two Academy Awards.

The movie earned $441.2 million domestically (in the US and Canada) and $487.5 million internationally for $928.7 million, making it the highest-grossing film of 2004 and the franchise’s overall. Additionally, this places the movie at number 14 on the all-time domestic box office list and 42 on the global box office list. In the US, the film reportedly sold 71,050,900 tickets.

The movie also dethroned Finding Nemo (2003), which had previously held the record for an animated feature’s biggest worldwide gross, despite the latter’s more excellent overseas-only take. The movie Shrek 2 (which had a production budget of $150 million) is DreamWorks’ most prosperous one, with DVD sales and related products predicted to reach approximately $800 million.

Cameron Diaz’s Shrek pay soared, earning $10 million for two work days.

Shrek 2 was released three years later, in 2004, and made $928 million worldwide, nearly quadrupling the first movie’s box office success.

Salary increases for the sequel were made possible by the movie’s popularity. Cameron Diaz was one of those who received hefty compensation. The actress’s pay increased from six figures in the first movie to $10 million for the follow-up.

In a flash, Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and the rest of the cast altered that impression. They also made a lot of money playing their parts, like Eddie Murphy, who earned good pay for the movie, including  Cameron Diaz, who played Princess Fiona.

In addition to a significant increase in pay, Diaz claims that despite doing little behind-the-scenes work, her remuneration skyrocketed.

Buzz Feed claims that Diaz earned $10 million after two work days. Diaz labored for two days, putting in five hours each day, making $1 million to voice Fiona.

With a net worth of over $140 million, Cameron Diaz is doing more than acceptable despite her lack of work in recent years.
