Spider-Woman, Isa Rae’s verse was revealed in the trailer of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse on December 13, Tuesday, by Marvel Cinematic Universe ( MCU).
Issa Rae’s casting as Jessica Drew, a.k.a. Spider-Woman, in the planned animated sequel was officially announced in 2021. In addition, Denis Hopeless’ portrayal of the character, which was pregnant, would have a significant impact on the character’s development.
The viewers would meet the Vulture of her universe; nothing else about her character has been released since.
Finally, we can see what the movie did with Jessica Drew; to put it mildly, it’s rather interesting.
Issa Rae debuted as Spider-Woman
More than a few Spidey Variants debut in the two-minute new teaser Sony has published for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman, voiced by the actress Issa Rae, is one of them.
Although her overall function in the film is unclear, this image of her with Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 implies that she will play a more significant part than many other Spider-People seen in the trailer.
In this trailer, Isha Rae makes her on-screen debut and rushes into battle while pregnant.
Additionally, the teaser gives a fantastic little peek at Drew facing off against her Vulture.
A Unique Spider-Woman
Without a doubt, this Jessica Drew differs significantly from the character she plays in comic books.
Visually, the character has undergone significant alterations for those familiar with Drew. She wears the same costume, but this time, the color of the hero’s skin has been altered, and she has a passable Afro—likely to fit better the actress who plays her.
One particularly intriguing detail is the Spider-ability Woman’s to shoot web from her fingertips, which is also how Cindy Moon’s Silk, another Spider-Man character, does it.
Funny enough, Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman, the most well-known version of the character, has no genuine link to Spider-Man in the comics. She can therefore shoot webs, which is a novel idea for the character.
The actual query is how much of a part she will have. Given her opportunity with Spidey 2099 and Issa Rae’s selection, she’ll play a significant role in defending the Spider-Verse from Spot, the antagonist of the franchise’s upcoming two films.
On June 2, 2023, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theatres.
