The Last Jedi is still fans’ favorite after five years of release. Compared to The Rise of Skywalker and The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has aged better and continues to be spectacular. It would be a euphemism to say that The Last Jedi divided audiences when it first came out in 2017. The film wasn’t particularly controversial, but it split Star Wars fans.

Following The Force Awakens, it zigzagged where others anticipated it to zag, shattering expectations for the sequel trilogy’s direction and the identity of the true heroes of the first three films before coming face to face with the essence of Star Wars.

With all of that, it’s understandable why Star Wars: The Last Jedi received negative reviews and didn’t win over everyone. Rian Johnson made some risky moves, which carry a certain amount of risk. With the passage of time and a fuller understanding of the sequel trilogy (and some distance from it), this is only accentuated further because The Rise of Skywalker and The Force Awakens takes a more conservative approach and explicitly attempts to appease fans. However, this implies that The Last Jedi does.

A new trilogy of movies was announced following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in October 2012. The Last Jedi is part of those movies. President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman produced it, and The Force Awakens director J. J. Abrams served as executive producer.

John Williams, who had previously composed music for episodic movies, had also composed the music for The Score. Principal photography started at Pinewood Studios in England in February 2016 and ended that July. Some sequences were shot at Skellig Michael in Ireland during pre-production in September 2015.
